The orginal speaker choice, Emminence Swamp Thang, did not yield the nice tones I had been expecting from the newly purchased drives. Also, since I went back to a very clean head (Schroeder DB7, he also built the cabinet), I have had to use OD pedals for dirt. BTW, I did happen to notice that the schematic seems to indicate some sort of insulation being used in the cabinet. We did place fiberglass batting in between the fins but I can't believe how rich this thing sounds (I had a V30 installed). On the other hand (pun intended), it has an absolutely huge sound and if you place it vertically, it seems to accentuate the high end a little better than when it's horizontal.

It is approximately the same size as the Bandmaster cabinet, but I can carry it easily with one hand. My cabinet is fitted for a 12" speaker, but essentially the same idea as the schematic. I had never heard of this design before, but I'm totally sold now. Just to throw a different thought your way, I recently purchased a custom build on the old Tone Ring design and couldn't be happier. Two 40-watters would be more than enough. I think two 80 watt speakers is overkill and will run up your budget without improving your tone. I have never played it hard and its good to go. Excellent condition. It has the classic Fender tube amp sound in abundance, but it is too loud for my current needs. But why make a classic BF Fender try to sound like one?īTW, with the original OT your Bandmaster probably isn't putting out much more than 35 watts if that. This is a 1968 Fender Bandmaster guitar amplifier head, silverface, drip-edge with AB763 circuit same as blackface as far as I know. But that's my bias away from Vox/Marshall and towards clean BF Fender tones. Personally I'd recommend thinking about going partial open back-I think its more of a Fendery sound-and some of the Emi or Weber speakers voiced more like old Jensens, again I think it's more of a Fendery sound. Those Fender piggy back 2X12s are big and heavy! Be careful what you wish for (or what you have to have shipped to HI!). I have a Tremolux sized piggy cab set up as a partial open back 1X15 instead of the closed 2X10-I'm not crazy about the sound or directionality of those Fender closed back cabs. I rock a '66 Bandmaster (w/ a Bassman sized OT) that I really like-warm, full, clean, not a great amp if you're looking for non-pedal break up, but a great clean amp and good pedal platform.
