In the top left corner is a menu item, go to My Missions, and Activate Guidance, and it will show you where to go. So, I can only speak for Albion Prelude (I did the Argon Peacekeeper start), but there is almost always a story mission.

Download the mod for unlimited salvage insurance (save anywhere). My opinion is that that is the only way to really play the game. The biggest knock against it is that you can't just save anywhere, so I downloaded a mod that allowed me to do that. It's spaceship M&B with better graphics, more depth, better mission designs, and more. The best complement I can give it is that it is like the Mount & Blade SP campaign, but with spaceships. All I can say is that after about 2 weeks of playing, I have 65+ hours in it, and it has climbed to ~#5 on my Steam top-played list. I played that for about 2 hours and blew up when I hit a space station and rage-quit.Ģ weeks ago, I booted up X3: Albion Prelude, and somehow it just clicked this time. Eventually, I began and played all of them in succession but bounced off of each one (less than an hour played) for various reasons until X3: TC. If you're coming from X4, then I'd imagine X3FL is probably the best place to start as an introduction to X3.So I bought the X Superbox during some Steam sale a while back intent on playing them at some point in the future. I haven't played it myself (I'm an X3TC addict) but from the sounds of it X3FL is probably a step in the same direction as AP was from TC, making it the most modernized and streamlined experience in the X3 series. It also features somewhat improved UI and slight modernization, better weapon balancing, abbreviated storylines and plenty of more refined mechanics. X3AP is a more active and vibrant universe, with lots that's going on that isn't in your control. It also has many of the grindiest storylines so it provides plenty of content and longevity if that appeals to you. X3TC is the oldest but is also the "quietest" universe if you'd prefer to just be a trader or if you'd prefer to dominate the whole universe. The important differences between the X games are largely about their mechanics. Don't worry about playing them chronologically there's no benefit to that. The stories of X games are relatively self-contained and often somewhat overlapping, as in you'll get an abbreviated version of the same story in different versions. Modded FL still tracks achievements in-game, so it's easy to see which you have earned and then use the tool accordingly.

However, you can get around it by legitimately earning the achievements in-game and then using an external tool like Steam Achievement Manager to unlock it in Steam at the same time. Mods disable Steam achievements, so that might be problematic if achievements are important to you. If you don't like the dynamic reputation, or other aspects, they can be changed with mods. I consider the Xenon threat to be a positive aspect, since it adds more pressure to the player, and from my experience has not been overly harsh. Despite that, the new agent system can manage it reasonably well. It can be frustrating and tedious at times. The dynamic reputation system is good in theory, but it's implementation needs a bit of improvement. But, it also adds controversial mechanics such as the dynamic reputation system and heavier Xenon presence. Don't use the 1.2 beta, it's buggy since it's a beta.įL fixes problems from TC/AP and adds great new features. 1.1 has a number of issues that are resolved in the patch.

I would suggest playing FL instead of TC or AP, but wait for the 1.2 patch first.
